Sri Lanka is a fabulous choice for a surfing holiday, and since 1970s, the Ceylon beaches have been popular surf destinations. Arugam Bay, the south-east beach is listed as one of the top ten surf spots in the world. Apart from that, major beaches of south coast including Hikkaduwa, Mirissa, and Trincomalee found to be great surf points which will always be unhesitant choice of the surfers. Sri Lanka’s monsoon weather patterns make one side of the island possible for water sports and surfing all year around.


Arugambay is a poignant surfing beach in Sri Lanka and recorded as the 4th best beach in South-East Asia and enlisted as top ten surfing destinations in the world. This is a surfing haven for surfers of worldwide during the peak season between June and August. What make Arugambay a surfers’ paradise are its sea waves rise up to 6ft and rides of almost 400m, as well as the beach’s relatively uncrowded condition. Surf boards can be rented in the town, and lessons are also available.


South West of Sri Lanka also provides you with lot more surf sports. The waves here are absolutely perfect for beginners, but paddling further will bring some bigger waves for the more advanced surfers.  The best season to surf at Weligama and south west is from October to end of May. There are many places to rent surfboards, but usually the accommodating places will serve to sort that out for you.
